Lobsinger
was honored last year with a special legislative commendation
by the State of Oklahoma for his paper's extensive
coverage of Narconon
activities at Chilocco Indian Reservation outside of Newkirk
and Narconon's ties to a well known destructive cult, the Church
of Scientology.
The annual
award is named for Congressman Leo J. Ryan, who was assassinated
on Nov. 18, 1978--13 years ago--on an airstrip in Guyana.
Along with Ryan, 911 followers of a cult leader, Jim Jones,
were murdered or committed suicide.
Each
year on the anniversary of the Jonestown massacre, the Cult
Awareness Network, CAN, honors an American citizen who exhibits
extraordinary courage, tenacity and perseverance in the battle
against tyranny over the mind of man.
This
award was presented on Nov. 2 to Lobsinger
at CAN's National Conference, recently held in Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma.
Oklahoma
State Representative Jim Reese says of Lobsinger that, "Bob's
tenacity and dedication in covering the Scientology story
in Oklahoma reflects how much he cares about his community.
Bob will do anything in his power to help the citizens of
Newkirk and Kay County when there's a need."
Despite
harassment to himself and his family, Lobsinger has steadfastly
continued to research the background of Scientology and its
Narconon program, and has worked to alert Oklahoma State Agencies
as to the deceptive activities of Scientology and Narconon.
Additionally,
since publicly exposing Scientology's duplicitous conduct
in regard to the State of Oklahoma, Lobsinger has assisted
dozens of people who have themselves had problems with Scientology.
In accepting
the award, Lobsinger acknowledges his wife, Susan for working
with him to expose Scientology and concluded, "The job
is far from over. Our full appreciation of the Ryan will not
come until Narconon is no longer a threat to our community.
And that, it seems, is an ongoing struggle. The good that
has come of their adventure in our backyard is that we have
met hundreds of wonderful people from around the world united
in the cause of freedom of thought, whatever their differences
might be."
