FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
LAW
ENFORCEMENT
INVESTIGATIVE REPORT
On April 30, 1997, Paul Kellerhals testified at deposition as a result of a SAO subpoena.
Mr. Kellerhals testified that a security guard was posted at the door and had to unlock the door for him (Mr. Kellerhals) to enter (page 21, lines 1-7, deposition transcript).
Mr. Kellerhals was asked what would the security guard do if Lisa attempted to leave her room and he replied uThe only thing I can say, I mean, that is not anything I specifically instructed them on, right, but it would have been understood and I can see it would be clearly understood if she would step out into the street or step out into.., try to leave without her clothes on or something like that, they would actually attempt to persuade her back into the room. I expect that would be the case. And gentle persuasion is the general order that came on that point, without force” (page 17, lines 17-25, deposition transcript).
Mr. Kellerhals testified that other then church personnel, Lisa had no visitors (page 29, lines 20- 23, deposition transcript).
On April 25, 1997, Emma Schamerhorn testified at deposition as a result of a SAO subpoena.
Ms. Schamerhorn testified that Lisa was not allowed to leave the room and that Alain Kartuzinski would have to approve Lisa leaving (page 47, lines 3-8, deposition transcript).
Ms. Schamerhom testified that on one occasion Lisa looked out the door. A security guard was posted outside the door (page 52, lines 15-21, deposition transcript).
On March 10, 1997, Joan Stevens testified at deposition as a result of a SAO subpoena.
Joan Stevens testified that a security guard was posted outside of Lisa’s room (page 12, lines 5- 12, deposition transcript).
Ms. Stevens testified that the security guard, Sam Ghiora, assisted her in keeping Lisa in the room (page 31, lines 1-12, deposition transcript).
Ms. Stevens said “Yeah, it was like she reached for the door knob, right? And I was like at that time a bit freaked out, right? So I did ask Sam for help”. Stevens was then asked “Did Sam stop her from going out the door?” and she answered “Yes” (page 42, lines 13-19, deposition transcript).
Ms. Stevens was asked “Did she ever tell you she wanted to leave?” and she replied “She never.., no, it was never like she, you know, she goes “I want out of here, let me leave. It was just total like impulse after impulse after impulse”. Stevens was then asked “How did you know she (Lisa) wanted to leave?” and Stevens replied “She grabbed the door knob” (page 43, lines 5-10, deposition transcript).
