During the 1998 memorial picket in Clearwater, Florida two critics of Scientology purchased ads to be displayed on the sides of city busses. Slogans such as "Think for yourself...Quit Scientology" were on display briefly before Scientology complained and had them yanked off the vehicles.

Two months later a hearing was held on the topic. Frank Oliver spoke on behalf of the critics while Scientology's long time attorney, Paul Johnson, spoke on their behalf.
